Tech Tip for January 9th, 2006
Windows XP RAM Speed Increase Mike High So you've been using that new computer you got for Christmas over the last couple of weeks and you start to notice that your wonderful new system doesn't seem to be as fast as you thought it would be. You should make sure you have at least 512mb of RAM in your computer. After that the following tips can help whether you are short on RAM or not. Windows XP comes with a lot of eye candy. The following steps will help disable some of this eye candy and free up some of your system resources to help you get your work done. First we are going to turn of the Windows XP Effects. Right click on an empty spot of your desktop and left click Properties that shows up on the menu. You should now see the following: ![]() Click on the Appearance tab. You will see an Effects button. Click this and you will see the following: ![]() You need to uncheck all of the items on this page. After doing this click OK and then OK again. Next, go to the Control Panel. After you get there you should see the following: ![]() On the left side click the item that says Switch to Classic View and then look for the icon that says System. Double click on this icon to open it. And click the Advanced tab. Click the top Settings button under Performance. You should see the following: ![]() Click the option for Adjust for best performance. Click OK twice and close the Control Panel. This is just a small fix to help your system run more smoothly. For a better, more permanent fix, be sure that your computer is running 512 MB of RAM, minimum.
