Microsoft released new operating system Windows Vista to the public this week. This new system contains significant changes to how software runs, and today Intuit released information cautioning users about upgrading from their current Windows system to the new software.

If new and current QuickBooks users are not planning to upgrade to Windows Vista, there's no need for concern. However, if you are considering using the new Microsoft platform, QuickBooks recommends that you use QuickBooks 2007, and other software specifically built to cooperate with Windows Vista. 2007 is the only version of the QuickBooks software created to run on the Windows Vista operating system at this time as well as Windows XP and Windows 2000.

Further Compatibility Issues - QuickBooks Payroll Services

QuickBooks Payroll Services (Standard, Enhanced and Assisted) will only function correctly on a Windows Vista computer if you are using QuickBooks 2007 or QuickBooks Enterprise 7.0. If you are using an earlier version of QuickBooks on Windows Vista (even if you are a Windows administrator and running the software in XP-compatibility mode), payroll services will not download or work properly. As a result, Intuit is not able to provide support for payroll service issues.

QuickBooks 2006 and previous versions were developed before Windows Vista was released, and at this time are not compatible with the new operating system.
