While Microsoft has confirmed their commitment to support IE6 until April 8, 2014, others do not seem so attached to the browser that was released nine years ago. Several large companies, such as YouTube, have already ceased their support of IE6. Others, such as Gmail, Google Docs, and Google calendar, have stated they will continue the support only a small way into 2010. Rumors cover the internet on what big companies may be discussing dropping the support for IE6 as well.
IE6's life has been riddled with security and performance issues that users have never been shy to complain about. This browser has been causing many headaches for web developers for a long time as well. The browser does not fully nor properly support CSS version 2, which makes it difficult for web developers to ensure compatibility with the browser without degrading the experience for users of more modern browsers.
