You’ve heard it time and time again. “If you don’t back up your important data, you will regret it later!” You can never be sure when a fire, flood, virus, or technical failure will cause you to lose irreplaceable information. So, with all your new knowledge, you back up your data. In fact, you may even back-up your back-ups! Now you can sit back, relax, and go about your day worry-free, right? Not so fast.
Where are you storing your back-ups? Are they right next to your computer? Are they in the office right down the hall? Many people have made the mistake of storing back-ups in the same location as their computers. While it may not seem like that big of a problem, your back-ups will be no use to you if they are submerged in the same flood waters as your desktop, or if they are found in the same pile of ashes as your server.
Just remember: Always back up your data regularly, and always store it in a safe place outside of your workplace.
