Working With Pictures In Microsoft Word Ami Kastner Working with pictures in Microsoft Word is a fairly easy task. The keys are to know where your picture is located on your computer or disk and also to know where you want it placed in your document. Most people normally recommend getting all of the text in the document first before inserting pictures. Once the document is created and you are ready to insert your picture, put your cursor in the location in your document where you wish your picture to be placed. Then go to Insert --> Picture --> From File. ![]() After you click From File, a window will open up so you can browse to the location of your picture. ![]() Select the picture you wish to insert and click Insert. The picture will now be inserted into your document wherever your cursor was placed. Editing the picture once it is placed in the document: To change the size of a picture, you can simply click on the picture and then drag the little boxes that appear on the sides and corners. ![]() Keep in mind that if you try resizing by using one of the little boxes on the center of any side, the picture will not stay proportional. To keep the picture proportional, use the little boxes on the corners. To change the alignment of the picture, you can use the shortcuts on your toolbar. Click on the picture and then click whether you want the picture left-aligned, centered, or right-aligned. ![]() If you prefer to have the picture located within the text, you can do that as well. Right-click on the picture, and then click Format Picture. ![]() Once you click Format Picture another window will appear. Click the Layout tab. ![]() Other options available from the Format Picture window are listed under the Colors and Lines, Size, Picture, Text Box, and Web tabs. Under the Size tab, you can resize and/or rotate a picture. ![]() Under the Picture tab you can Crop a picture and also change several of the Image options. If you need to change the brightness of a picture or change it to Black & White, this is where you would do it. ![]() Finally, there is a Picture toolbar that will also help you accomplish many of the same tasks. If you click on a picture, you should see this toolbar appear if you do not normally have it showing. To find out what a button is for, simply hold your mouse over the button and a box will appear showing you what that particular button does. If you would like to have it show with your other toolbars, you can simply drag it into the location you would prefer to have it appear at the top, bottom, left, or right side of your page. ![]() If you have any additional questions regarding pictures in Microsoft Word documents, please contact Drake Hardware & Software at 319.752.1155 or send an email to info@drakehs.com. |
