Iowa Microsoft Class Action Settlement Update info@drakehs.com Iowa Consumers and businesses that purchased a license for Microsoft software may be eligible for part of a proposed class action settlement of over $179 million. If you purchased a license for certain Microsoft software for use in Iowa between May 18, 1994 and June 30, 2006, and your purchase was made through someone other than Microsoft, you must submit a claim form before December 14, 2007. This claim includes computers purchased through Dell, HP, and other providers, as hardware could be shipped with a Microsoft operating system and/or other Microsoft products installed. The class action lawsuit claims that Microsoft violated Iowa antitrust and unfair competition laws. Suit plaintiffs claim consumers were overcharged for software. The final approval hearing is currently scheduled for August 31, 2007. It is not known whether appeals will be filed. If no appeals are filed, it is expected that the settlement administrator will begin distributing settlement benefits in December 2007.
