Tech Tip for June 20th, 2006
E-Waste Recycling Update info@drakehs.com ![]() Thank you to all who contributed to this year's E-Waste Recycling Week. Our recycling week proved again to be a great success. We collected E-Waste on Monday, June 19, for the first time in Keokuk at Great River Regional Waste Authority. On Tuesday we collected again in Fort Madison, and on Wednesday and Thursday we collected at the Burlington Train Depot. Numbers will be posted once they are finalized. E-Waste Recycling is such an important facet of our business lives. Did you know that the average monitor or television is 10% lead? The highest concentration is found within the glass of the monitor or television screen but is also found throughout other parts of the computer. It is now estimated that 40% of the lead found in our landfills is generated from electronic equipment. Did you also know that over 580 tons of computer plastic is discarded each year? The facts regarding electronic waste continue to grow and amaze us, but even with the growing knowledge of all the health hazards that can be associated with the dumping of electronic equipment much less the obvious unnecessary filling of our landfills, it is still estimated that only 14%-15% of our electronic equipment is currently recycled. Thank you again to all of you who help us continue to make this event an ongoing success! |
