Laying It On Thick: Drake H&S Participates in Paint-A-Thon 2006 Jennifer Koch What has eighteen hands, gray spots and a ton of determination? It's Drake Hardware & Software's Paint-A-Thon team! Armed with ladders, scrapers, brushes and gallon cans of slate gray paint, Drake Hardware & Software employees and members of the First Presbyterian Church scraped siding, caulked windows and spread on a coat of community action when they took on a local Burlington house in need of a brush-up. Homeowner John Brueck is one of eighteen individuals chosen for this year's annual Paint-A-Thon, sponsored by Burlington Bank & Trust and Diamond Vogel Paint. Qualified homeowners are low-income elderly or handicapped Burlington residents who cannot handle the major undertaking themselves, and cannot afford a commercial paint job. Drake Hardware & Software, participant in the Burlington Paint-A-Thon for four years, is only one of thirty-two teams who took part in the annual event in 2006. Paint-A-Thon team members power-wash the homes, repair gutters and fences, and cut down grass around the homes as well as slather on a slick new coat of paint. Brueck's shutters, ornamental fountain and garden statuary look like new thanks to our efforts this year. Gratitude goes out to Drake Hardware & Software team captains, Teresa Pfeiff-Naughton and Mike High, First Presbyterian Church team captain Shirley Webster, for pitching in and directing the troops, and a special thanks to Jeff for not attempting to paint trim.
