Microsoft released their new operating system Windows 7 to the public October 22nd. This new operating system runs similar to Windows Vista, but software runs differently. In response to this, Intuit has released information cautioning users about upgrading from their current Windows system to the new software.
If new and current QuickBooks users are not planning to upgrade to Windows 7, there is no need for concern. However, if you are considering using the new Microsoft platform, QuickBooks recommends that you use QuickBooks 2010, and other software specifically built to cooperate with Windows 7. QuickBooks 2010 is the only version of the QuickBooks software that Intuit Technical Support will support if running on a Windows 7 machine. Even though earlier versions of QuickBooks, such as 2009, will install successfully on Windows 7, technical support is limited to QuickBooks 2010 products only. Microsoft's website claims that QuickBooks 2007, 2008, and 2009 are also compatible with Windows 7. The website also claims products, such as Peachtree Quantum 2010 are compatible with Windows 7.
Further Compatibility Issues - QuickBooks Stops Responding When Searching with Google Desktop
If you are running QuickBooks on Windows 7 with the XP Mode virtual environment, QuickBooks stops responding. The version of Google Desktop that comes with QuickBooks 2009 and earlier versions of QuickBooks is not compatible with XP Mode. Detailed instructions on how to fix this can be found here.
